Feedback from the 30 June 2014 Inner CADRE Project Get-together

Fourteen people attended the June Inner City CADRE Project Get-together with representatives from a number of organisations including: Inner City SUPER group, Espire Consumer Network, Eastern Sydney Partners in Recovery, Inner West Partners in Recovery, Darlinghurst Neaminational, members from Redfern//Waterloo Cadre network, Arafmi NSW, South Sydney Community Aid, Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW & Inner City Health Program

During the catch up people shared what they have been doing since the December CADRE Get-together. I have included the relevant points under the six objectives from the project:

  1. Establish an inner city cadre network
  • We have 143 people on the mailing list for the Inner City CADRE network
  • At the Looking Forward Looking Back forum in April over 100 people attended the Redfern Town Hall
  • Forty one people from the attendance list have responded to an online survey about the forum
  • Forty nine people from the Inner City CADRE network mailing list have responded to an online survey about the web site www.cosnp.info
  • At  8 July The City of Sydney web site www.cosnp.info had 3053 viewers
  • Viewers had come from 22 countries with 2758 being from Australia
  • There had been 83 posts, with 39 people subscribed to receive all posts
  • The top 3 views were Welcome page (1038), Resources (312) and 2014 Team Marbles Challenge (149)
  • The video Inpatient has been viewed 658 times
  • The video Inpatient: Behind the Scene has been viewed 159 times
  • The Inner City CADRE Facebook page has 3826 likes https://www.facebook.com/pages/Inner-City-Cadre-project/279010388883261?ref_type=bookmark
  1. Educate and support cadre’s as community members to reduce stigma (linked with mental health issues
  • The Deck of Dreams art works have now been displayed five times and we have received 265 entries into the Deck of Dreams Viewers choice that is being used to identify 12 of the images that will be used for a calendar. Breakout Design Print will have a sample ready for the August 2014 Inner City Working Group 4 Mental Health Recovery meeting on 26 August
  • The Inner City SUPER group share information about this year’s Team Marble Challenge to be held in Newcastle on 3rd December at 2 pm.
  • Lynda Hennessy is the Red Team Captain and Bill Yan is the Green Team Captain, both captains are looking for team players and supporters; interested people can register at www.cosnp.info
  • A bus is being organised to take people to the event in Newcastle, please contact one of the team captains if you want a seat
  • The Redfern/Waterloo CADRE network is working on a week long program for mental health month, for more information contact Laura at The Factory http://www.the-factory.org.au/Factory.html .
  • People who attended the MAD Jam workshops performed at the Looking Forward Looking Back 4 forum in April
  1. Assist people with a mental health problems and disorders
  • There was a number of examples of how this is being achieved from people attending the meeting
  • People attending the Get-together completed the Name Game template and when all members on the mailing list have had the opportunity to complete the template it will be put up on the City of Sydney website for members to read
  1. Benefit Housing Department communities that include consumers, carers, neighbours and service providers in the inner city
  • There was a number of examples of how this is being achieved from people attending the Inner City CADRE Get-together meeting included in the Name game feedback
  • One example is around how members from the Surry Hills CADRE network are collaborating with other residents from Surry Hills to develop the men’s shed on the Northcott estate, a $45,000 grant has been obtained, a DA has been sent to council and a trip to the Kurangi Mens Shed is planned for 31 July
  1. Develop coping and support strategies for mental health consumers and their supporters, carers and neighbours
  • People attending the Get-together shared strategies that they were using  to support mental health consumers and their supporters, carers and neighbours across the Inner City and were grateful the CITY of Sydney Narrative Resource Pack website www.cosnp.info has a range of resources that are proving to be useful
  1. Contribute to positive change in the community with regards to being good neighbours

One example of how this is happening is through the Inner West Tenants group who have invited members from the Inner City CADRE project to participate in a forum to explore whether the CADRE project could be used across the Inner West, three members from the Inner City CADRE Get-together will be part of a panel on 29 July 2014 at the Wharf Road Recreation Hall, Callan Park, Wharf Road, Lilyfield. I will report back at the August Inner City Working Group 4 Mental Health Recovery meeting on how this is progressing
