The Project Independence Team will be launching several projects at the NSW Recovery Camp including:
- Recovery Quilt based on the 16 National Standards for Mental Health Standards,
- Recovery Stick Game
- Recovery Beach Cricket, and
- Recovery Film Challenge

Every September, SAMHSA sponsors Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use issues and celebrate the people who recover.
The Hearing Voices Network NSW are organising a two day forum on 13/14 September called Dare to Dream. Day one oIf the forum will look at the HVN NSW readiness to take advantage of the opportunities that will come for voice hearers through the NDIS.
Day 2 will be a celebration of World Hearing Voices Day and we have been fortunate to have Amanda Waegeli, chairperson of the Australian Hearing Voices Establishment Project as the guest presenter for day 2. We will also be releasing two reports during the day to showcase the research we have been involved with to raise awareness of the Hearing Voices Approach.
We are currently fundraising to have funds available to show the Hearing Voices documentary called Healing Voices on day 2
The Project Independent working group will have the pleasure of hosting Gary Parker for the last week in September to have an information forum about Consumer Run Organisations on 29 September and have a Peer picnic at Callan Park on Monday 3 October and a boat ride on Sydney Harbour thanks to Brett Collins from Justice Action before returning home to Kansas.
Gary and a number of his staff will be returning for the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership (IIMHL) in February. Gary will lead a two day workshop on Trauma Informed Care (TIC) on 6/7 March. The PI team is planning to have 24 spaces for 8 NSW consumers, 8 from Victoria and to approach Mental Health Australia to support another 8 to be part of the two day workshop.
